Being an early childhood teacher makes it so hard for the teacher. A childhood teacher is a guide to the children who are being taught under them and is also a person who is close to the heart of the kids while teaching them new things and keeping them safe from any harm that could come their way. I chose to go into this field because I wanted to be one of those early childhood teachers who makes children ready for their precious life. I love the thought of being the first person to get the children started with their education by helping them along the way with fun-filled classroom activities and games. As a teacher, you should provide children with some new experiences so they can have fun learning new things and also learn quickly. Another very important thing about being an early childhood educator is having strong management skills so you can have lesson plans, paperwork, and other important documents that need to be done on time, instead of waiting until the last moment. With this, you can avoid making any mistakes and deliver the best for the kids. When you are a teacher, whether it’s for young kids, elementary, middle or high school students, there will be many challenges that come along with it. so that’s another thing that a teacher should be good in prepared to face. Having patience, stamina and a personality to work in a room full of energetic children every day is also a great quality for a teacher to have.
Teaching is one of the best professions for a girl. In my case I come from a background where my mother is a teacher and from the early days, I got the exposure on how to become a teacher and the things I will have to do as a teacher. I wanted to become a teacher to be able to make a positive difference in the future of children. For me, it is a fulfilling challenge, stimulating the next generation to become lifelong learners. I have always been grateful to my mom for implanting values in me. I feel I should contribute what I have learned and experienced over the years to all my children. This way I will be paying back and at the same time can fulfill my desire to enhance the education system.
My education is the strongest basement and the main achievement of my life and my work experience is my key strength. While I was doing my Advanced level studies at school, I could get some experience in teaching. It has been my dream since childhood to become a teacher as I always loved to work with children thus, I started my teaching career right away. In 2013 I started a Diploma in Early Childhood Education at American National College and was able to complete the Diploma with a Distinction for my examination and I was employed by a recognized preschool in Sri Lanka ‘Modern Montessori International’. I started as a trainee and then I was employed in three different teaching-related positions including assistant teacher (1 year) then class teacher (2 years) and finally form coordinator (2 years). I also completed 420 hours of training period at Modern Montessori International and received a certificate of International Diploma in Early Childhood Education. While I was teaching at Modern Montessori International, I wanted to excel in Primary Teaching as well therefore, I joined Gateway Graduate School and completed Pearson SRF BTEC Level 4 and 5 Higher National Diploma in Teaching.
As a teacher I believe that we grow from our experiences therefore, I did not want to stop from here, I wanted to explore more. I worked at Modern Montessori International for 7 years and within those five years, I gained a lot of knowledge, skills, and experience.
However, Gateway Graduate School did not provide a Bachelor’s Degree in Primary Teaching at that time, straight after the Higher National Diploma they had a Master which I believed was not practical to do Masters without a Bachelor’s Degree therefore, I had to take a break from studies and concentrate only on my working life. In 2020 I got the chance to do my Bachelor’s Degree in Primary Teaching at Metropolitan Campus which is affiliated with the Grine American University and I was able to complete my Bachelor’s Degree successfully.
Everyone has their unique distinctions that make them who they are. I chose the teaching field because I have a genuine belief that I can succeed but, more importantly, I have a genuine passion for the subject which means I enjoy learning and immersing myself. The benefits would be long-lasting, as my eventual career goals are very much aligned with the subject matter. I strongly believe in myself that I possess a great deal of eagerness to do what I am enthusiastic about in my life. I always think positively, and that has brought me so far, which I am proud of when I look back.
