Overview of the course

This course is ideal for both experienced English Language teachers and those with little or no experience in the area who wish to become an English language teacher to speakers of other languages. The course helps you develop employability and enterprise skills, and offers a lot of teaching practice as well as an optional placement.MA TESOL will equip you with a highly portable global skillset that allows you to get started as an English teacher in schools, universities and private training institutions around the world, manage English Language Teaching (ELT) programmes, develop educational material and textbooks, or even start your own language teaching business.

For students from Sri Lanka

Sri Lankan A/Levels, English language entry requirements are Sri Lankan GCE A-Level: Grade C, IELTS 6.0 with minimum of 5.5 in each component or alternative English language qualification accepted by the University at the appropriate grade Students who do not meet the English language requirements may be required to take a pre-sessional English language (PEAP) course

For international students

IELTS (Academic only) – 7.0 (or better) (no component lower than 7.0); TOEFL (paper based) – 600 (or better) (with a minimum Test of Written English Score of TWE 5); TOEFL (electronic or computer based) – 250 (or better) (with essay rating of at least 5); TOEFL (internet based) – 95 (or better) (with 22 minimum in all bands); Pearson (PTE Academic) – 65 (or better) (with no communicative score less than 65); Cambridge English Scale Scores for FCE, CAE and CPE – Cambridge English Advanced (CAE) and Cambridge English Proficiency (CPE)/ 185 or above. No less than 185 in each skill.
