Introduction
PGLIS Course is designed for the students to develop the knowledge and skills to
pursue the career as a librarian or an information professional. The course
contents are designed in such a way that they develop and understanding and
expertise as a LIS professional through a series of educational experiences. All
students study a core of seven modules. Each module will be of 40 hours of
duration. In addition, the students will complete a research project on a selected
topic and produce a research report which will be of equal weight of a core
module.
2) Entry requirements
i) A Bachelor’s degree in any subject obtained from a recognized university or a Higher
educational Institute.
OR
ii) The Associateship of the SLLA with 10 years of work experience in the Library and
Information field.
and
A satisfactory working knowledge of English
3) Course Objectives
• To provide a broad understanding on the principles of Library and Information Science, the
organization and management of libraries and information centers and of handling, storage, and
retrieval of information in all media.
• To give a broad professional education and a solid training in basic professional skills, which will
enable students to enter confidentially into appropriate work environments.
• To introduce students into theory and practice for research as it is applied in the field of Library and
Information Science.
