Introduction
Master of Science in Statistics is offered by the Department of Statistics and Computer Science of the Faculty of Science of University of Kelaniya. The Masters programs structure allow to select options ranging from the more theoretical aspects of Statistics, including a module on research topics, to those which cover material focused on real world applications of Statistics. The programs are designed so that the students have the opportunity to learn the statistical theories as well as the applications of arising in the industry. While studying for the degrees, it will develop key transferrable skills, such as written and oral communication, the use of some programming in Statistical software, time management, and basic research skills.
Program Objectives
The purpose of this degree programs is to advance the knowledge of a graduate in Statistics and prepare them to work in a professional environment or to proceed higher studies.
- develop the knowledge of Statistical theory and methods at an advanced level,
- acquire skills in statistical analyses using modern statistical techniques and software
- develop a sound understanding of applications of Statistical methods,
- acquire the technical skills for a career as a Statistician and/or to progress to advanced graduate degree
- develop oral, written and communication skills.
- Demonstrate awareness of current issues related to Statistics and implement research studies to provide effective solutions
The graduates will be suited and easily adapted to the relevant industry to perform a carrier as a Statistician or Analysist. Also, they will be able to proceed for Advance graduate studies.
Entry Qualifications
- A Bachelor of Honors degree in Statistics or Bachelor of Honors degree in Mathematics/Computer Science/ Information Technology with Statistics as a subject
or
- A Bachelor’s degree with Statistics as a subject,
or
- Any other equivalent qualification acceptable to the Senate of the University.
