Diploma in School Librarianship (DSL)

1) Introduction
According to the educational reforms introduced in 1998, the school library, the audiovisual unit, and the Computer Lab of the school were combined and renamed as the School
Library and Learning Resource Centre. Accordingly, the role of the school / teacher Librarian
has become teaching information skills, teaching participation, facilitating independent
learning, and teaching to read. By this it is expected to improve the quality of the resourcebased teaching and learning processes. The Diploma in School Librarianship intends to
provide the appropriate knowledge, attitudes and skills required to fulfill the new roles and to
produce a group of professionals who can shoulder these new transformations.
2) Target Group
Those who already work in school libraries and those who would like to join a school library.
3) Entry Requirements
Passing GCE (A/L) Old Syllabus: Passes in 04 subjects
New Syllabus: Passes in 03 main subjects
OR
Passing GCE (O/L) and the Certificate in School Librarianship (CSL) /Advanced certificate in School
librarianship (ACSL) or Advanced Certificate in Librarianship (ACL) awarded by the National
Institute of Library and Information Sciences.
4) Intended Learning Outcomes
After completing this course, the participants will be able to

• Discover the contribution of the school library to the resource-based teaching / learning process.
