The first two years of study at SLIIT aims to provide students with an inclusive understanding of the cultural and traditional context of Architectural design in Sri Lanka. The third and the final year of study collaborates with the University of Liverpool John Moores, to introduce the global dynamic of the degree, imparting international awareness needed to provide students with a comprehensive education in becoming truly global graduates of Architecture
The degree will cover subject areas ranging from Architectural design, History and theory of Architecture, Culture and Society, Environment, Urbanism, Construction Technology and professional practice to AutoCAD and freehand drawing. It’s out comes are based on the SLIA and RIBA requirements for professional Part -01 degree programmes. This BSc (Hons) degree in Architecture is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) of Sri Lanka opening opportunities to pursue postgraduate studies in related fields at government Universities.
This will be a firm foundation that paves the way to a number of other interesting postgraduate programs and professions as well. Urban design, Town and Country planning, Landscape Architecture, Interior Design, Archeology, Conservation and Project Management are some of the areas to which BSc(Hons) Architecture graduates can divert in to apart from a professional carrier in Architecture. After completing the BSc (Hons) Architecture degree at SLIIT, with minimum 6 months of work experience under a Chartered Architect, students are eligible to follow the MSc. Architecture degree programme at SLIIT. After the successful completion of this two-year post graduate degree – the MSc (Architecture) is also awarded by the University of Liverpool John Moores in the United Kingdom.

This professional pathway is ideal for creative people with sensitivity, imagination and ability to appreciate the technical aspects of building Construction.
An Architect is ultimately responsible for determining the aesthetics and functionality of the living environment; therefore, it is essential that an Architectural education develops attributes in students which incorporate knowledge, skills and sensitivity. These skills will be imparted and diligently assessed during the course of your Architectural journey at SLIIT.
Resources and Facilities
The programme is directed and conducted by a team of dedicated and eminent Chartered Architects, academics and subject specialists for each module. The SLIIT School of Architecture and its programms were established under the guidance of Prof. Nimal De Silva, Emeritus Professor of Architecture at the University of Moratuwa. Prof. De Silva is also the former Dean of the Faculty of Architecture at the University of Moratuwa.
The students have 24-hour access to designated individual work spaces in a modern studio environment. The lecture rooms, computer labs, printing and technology workshops at SLIIT provides a study environment of international standards. Extra-curricular activities such as sports, student associations and other campus activities, provide a well-rounded university experience at the SLIIT Malabe Campus.
