Description

This Programme

The Department of Social Sciences of the Faculty of Indigenous Social Sciences and Management Studies offers the 4-year, full time Bachelor of Science Honours in social studies in indigenous knowledge (BSc Hons in Social Studies) degree programme. The degree provides students insights into Indigenous knowledge and societies at the local, regional, national and international levels while staying faithful to and utilizing both written and oral traditions. In a world of social chaos, the department attempts to build the capacity of indigenous practitioners with highly sought-after skills and attitudes to knowledge, practices, approaches, methods and guidance to optimize innovation in the ultimate goal of developing a peaceful and healthy civil society.

 Benifits

The programme provides both theory and practical experience on assuring social wellbeing to students who wish to become social policy planners, plan designers and development practitioners leveraging community partners at the local and international levels. The Department of Social Sciences aims to disseminate knowledge, practice and methodology in indigenous social studies for sustainable development and optimized preventive healthcare while providing students with the required skills to preserve and transfer the most useful components of Sri Lanka’s cultural heritage of indigenous knowledge spread across all fields to the new generation. The Department requires its undergraduates to complete a compulsory industry-based field practicum for each semester prior to graduation as an integral component of the programme. An Internship provides a period of work experience offered by an organization for a limited period of time to enable undergraduates to put into practice the theoretical knowledge they acquired during their coursework. It is also an opportunity for employees to observe students in a work environment and evaluate their progress and management potential for possible future development.
