Course Overview

Bachelor of Information Technology (BIT)

A three year bachelor degree offered by University of Colombo School of Computing (UCSC), Sri Lanka.

Students must register for the BIT degree in the University of Colombo and all the course structure, syllabus, exams, markings and evaluations are done by the University of Colombo.
University provide Online e-learning materials through a VLE for the students.

Students (optionally) can attend any institute to do their studies. Students can change the institute any time, if they are not happy with the quality of lecturing.

At the successful completion of year/level one, students are awarded “Diploma in IT” and at the completion of year/level 2, students are awarded “Higher Diploma in IT” Certification by the University of Colombo.
For successful completion of all three years, candidates are awarded the bachelor of IT degree by the University of Colombo.

Students achieving excellent results will be awarded with class (First class, second class upper or Second class lower)
If a student gets the required GPA of 1.5 for a year but some of the subjects are failed, he/she may still proceed to the next year and resit the failed subjects in parallel while continuing the next year.
If a student does not get the minimum GPA of 1.5 for a year, he/she need to resit the failed subjects and get the required GPA before proceed to next year.

Entry Requirements

BIT from 2023 Academic year entry requirements	No person may be registered as a candidate for the Examinations leading to the Degree unless he/she satisfies (A) and (B) below: (A) he/she (i) has obtained three passes in the Local G.C.E. Advanced Level Examination (New Syllabus) in one sitting or four passes in the Local G.C.E. Advanced Level Examination (Old Syllabus) in one sitting; OR (ii) has obtained a minimum of three passes in the Cambridge/Pearson Edexcel International Advanced Level Examination in one sitting; OR (iii) has passed all the theoretical components of the Foundation in Information Technology (FIT) Programme conducted by the UCSC; OR (iv) has obtained the Higher National Diploma in Information Technology (HNDIT) where the certificate must be issued and verified by the Sri Lanka Institute of Advanced Technological Education (SLIATE); OR (v) has obtained the NVQ-Level 5 or above qualification in IT where the certificate must be issued and verified by the Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission (NEC); OR (vi) has obtained any other educational qualification deemed equivalent to the qualification referred to in paragraphs A (i) to (v) above by the Senate on the recommendation of the Academic Syndicate of the UCSC. AND (B) he/she (i) has obtained at least six passes in G.C.E. Ordinary Level Examination with three Credits including for Mathematics and English; OR (ii) has obtained at least six passes in Cambridge/Pearson Edexcel International 0 Level Examination with three Credits including for Mathematics and English; OR (iii) has obtained any other educational qualification deemed equivalent to the qualification referred to in paragraphs (B) (i) and (ii) above by the Senate on the recommendation of the Academic Syndicate of the UCSC.
Selection \| Registration	All the students qualified under any of the above options are registered without any selection test.
Notes	* Students with pending A/L results can also register provided they pass the exam when result is released. (iii) has obtained any other educational qualification deemed equivalent to the qualification referred to in paragraphs (B) (i) and (ii) above by the Senate on the recommendation of the Academic Syndicate of the UCSC.

All the students qualified under any of the above options are registered without any selection test.
