Bachelor of Arts General (External) Degree

The selection criteria have been amended according to the University Grants Commission (UGC)
Circular numbers 932/2010 and 20/2017 and 01/2021. These guidelines will be applicable to students
selected for the academic year 2017 onwards.
1. Required Minimum Qualifications
1.1. Students will be selected for admission by giving priority to those applicants who
have gained the highest Z-score at the relevant G.C.E. Advanced Level
examinations, since only a limited number of places are available.
1.2 Applicants should have passed any three subjects at one and the same attempt, in not
more than three attempts at the G.C.E. Advanced Level examination conducted by
the Department of Examinations Sri Lanka
1.3. Applicants with other qualifications equivalent to Sri Lanka Qualification Framework
(SLQF) Level 2 (e.g., NVQ Level – 4, Advanced Certificate) which fulfill the
minimum admission requirements for SLQF level 3 (University Level 1) will be also
considered for admission.
1.4. Other qualifications approved by the Senate may be considered, based on the
recommendations of the University Admissions Committee for External Degrees.
1.5. A limited number of students will be selected for Categories 1.3 and 1.4 under special
circumstances only, after the selections for Category 1.1 are completed.
2. Number of students to be selected
The total number of students enrolled for the degree programme of this academic year will be
twice the number of students admitted to the corresponding internal study programme of the
University
