Courses we offer in Matara
- Young Learners – General English
- Adults – General English / Spoken English
- Story time sessions for Kids
- IELTS preparation courses
- Primary young learners (6-7 years)
- Junior young learners (8-10 years)
- Senior young learners (11-13 years)
- Teens (14-15 years)
These courses are specifically designed to help young children feel comfortable with language. Mistakes are welcomed as a natural part of the learning process and this gives them the confidence to use English in the classroom. Using games, stories, songs and movement, our primary young learner courses make learning a creative and enjoyable experience.
We use continuous assessment to measure progress through homework, tasks and tests to assess your child’s progress throughout the term. At the end of the academic year, Young Learners have an end of year test.
At the end of each term, your child will be awarded a certificate, in order to receive this your child must have attended at least 60% of the course (i.e. minimum six out of ten lessons in each term).
At parent-teacher meetings, the teacher will go through your child’s portfolio of work and will give you an overview of your child’s progress, strengths and areas to work on.
The General English Courses improve your English communications skills (speaking, listening, reading and writing) for study, work and daily use. We also focus on the grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation you need to communicate effectively.
Adults (Age 16yrs and above)
General English – 50hrs
The General English Courses improve your English communications skills (speaking, listening, reading and writing) for study, work and daily use. We also focus on the grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation you need to communicate effectively.
HOW WILL YOU BE ASSESSED?
We measure your progress using continuous assessment. We look at your work done over during the course, both writing and speaking, as well as your participation and involvement. You will get individual advice from your teacher. We do this to help you understand what your strengths are and where there is room for improvement. We also measure your progress to see if you are ready to move up to the next General English level.
You must attend your course regularly. If you miss more than 30% of the course you may need to repeat the level and will not get a course certificate.
Spoken English Skills – 25hrs.
These 25-hour courses help you to improve your listening, speaking and pronunciation skills, as well as teaching you useful everyday expressions. You will increase your fluency and confidence when speaking English in day-to-day situations.
