Description

Course Description
The program covers all areas in how the human body functions at all levels, how to apply your knowledge of health and disease to real-life situations and discovers how humans interact with and respond to their environment. The course content span a wide range of scientific disciplines including biology, chemistry, biochemistry, microbiology, human anatomy and physiology, pathobiology, data analysis and genetics providing students with a solid foundation to specialize in any area of biomedical science of their interest. Specialization areas include Genetics and Molecular Biology, Forensics Biology and Toxicology, Clinical Laboratory Science and many more. Biomedical Science at our affiliated universities covers the science underpinning medical applications, from basic biology to specific disease processes to provide students with a thorough understanding of human biology and health, with an emphasis on the cause, diagnosis and treatment of disease at the molecular, cellular and system levels. At the completion of the Advanced Diploma in Biomedical Science students will have a thorough understanding of the theoretical aspects as well as practical aspects of all the areas which he/she can specialize as a Biomedical Scientist.

Program Objectives
1. Equip students with an understanding of Cellular Pathology, Clinical Biochemistry, Clinical Immunology, Haematology, Medical Microbiology and the Biology of Disease;
2. Ensure students can demonstrate knowledge of Human Anatomy and Physiology, Biochemistry, Molecular Genetics, Immunology and Microbiology;
3. Ensure students understand the factors and processes which contribute to human health and disease and apply their knowledge to analyze, interpret and critically evaluate biomedical data;
4. Equip students with the necessary laboratory skills and knowledge of planning and designing experiments and ensure that they can execute as independent research centered on data generation;
5. Ensure students demonstrate critical analysis and application of results obtained and design research protocols and use statistical techniques to enable valid analysis and interpretations of experimental results;
6. Allow students use effectively, transferable skills in communication, IT, numeracy and data analysis, teamwork, critical thinking, setting tasks, problem-solving and self-management;
7. Ensure students take account of and act in accordance with health and safety policies, good laboratory practice, ethical considerations and risk and Control of Substances Hazardous to Health assessments and recognize the importance of QC and QA.
